Waking up to this kind of news is pleasing to hear. What I don't understand is why it's not promoted on a larger scale. Throughout 1999 and 2000, over 1200 weapons were collected, and gun violence was noticeably reduced. Local police stations offer $100 in exchange for guns, which is pretty decent as well. If reducing gun crimes, and the general dangers from having access to a gun is not important enough to promote it, I don't know what is.
I haven't seen a single advertisement on TV or in the subway, which means that it's poorly advertised. I would be more than glad to design posters and newspaper ads for this, encouraging people to be safe! Taking illegal weapons off the streets should be the priority of all cities and government, and there's no better way than cash incentives. People love cash.
I think I am going to work on some ads promoting gun safety, just for fun. Anyone have any ideas? I'd like to view your thoughts.
If we were all to hand over our weapons, what would one do in a situation such as a riot? With cops tied up trying to protect themselves, who do we rely on for help? One thing for sure is that I'm not leaving my life in the hands of police officers who watch a man get punched numerous times in the face by "Rent-A-Cops"(Which has happened last night at a Mars Volta Concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom)! Question everything(especially the system)!
Hello Antonio,
Let's just say that the more guns that are involved, the more violent, dangerous, and hectic any given situation would become. The fact that you've seen someone get punched in the face numerous times by a "rent-a-cop" is a problem that goes beyond the right of owning a gone. That defies all moral standards, and signifies how corrupt some people can be.
This type of problem can be solved if people that are complaining REALLY wanted to do something about it, and stop the violence. Think about it - how often does a riot happen? Now compare that to the amount of gun crimes that happen each year. Plus, less guns on the street means less gun violence if a riot were to occur.
